Chinese President Xi Jinping has sent festive greetings to people across the country ahead of the Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year. The video call is a new channel for direct communication between the country's leadership and its people. Xia Lu, associate professor at the School of Marxism Studies at Renmin University of China, says that improving food security, transportation and medical care are some of the key messages in President Xi's greetings.
