President Xi Jinping on Wednesday inspected the combat readiness of the armed forces via video link ahead of the Spring Festival, or the Chinese New Year.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, extended festive greetings to service personnel of the People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police Force, civilian personnel posted in the military, and members of militia and reserve forces.

When talking with soldiers of the army, navy, air and armed police forces via video link, Xi asked them about situations on border patrol and control, emergency preparedness, daily air defense readiness and special warfare skills training, hailing their work and urging them to make solid efforts on combat preparations.

Xi fully recognized their work of combat readiness, stressing that the entire armed forces should strengthen combat readiness on duty and unswervingly safeguard national security and social stability during the upcoming Spring Festival.

He also urged to complete the urgent and dangerous tasks such as emergency rescue and disaster relief that they may undertake, so as to ensure that all Chinese people can have a happy, peaceful and safe Spring Festival.
