Chinese authorities say XAY.2 strain has not been detected in China

Chinese authorities say the XAY.2 variant of COVID-19 has not been detected in China. The variant is a hybrid of the AY.45 Delta variant and the BA.4 and BA.5 Omicron variant. Thailand reported its first case of the XAY.2 strain earlier this month. The variant was first found in South Africa in late August last year. It has so far been detected in nine countries and regions.
