The Kremlin's spokesperson said on Friday that Western countries supplying additional tanks to Ukraine would not change the course of the conflict and would add to the problems of the Ukrainian people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his government was expecting "strong decisions" from defense leaders of NATO members and other countries meeting on Friday to discuss boosting Ukraine's ability to confront Russian forces with modern battle tanks.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov on Friday also noted that conflict in Ukraine is on the rise and the threat of NATO's direct involvement is growing.
Meanwhile, he said Russia would closely monitor the U.S.' attempts to persuade Latin American countries to transfer weapons to Ukraine while commenting on the Russia-U.S. ties are at "an all-time low" halfway through U.S. President Joe Biden's term with no hope of improvement currently.
Western countries, including the U.S. and UK, have recently responded with new weapons supplies and military support to Ukraine as Kyiv pressures for more aid.
On Friday, EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell said that European countries are prepared to send heavy tanks to Ukraine, adding he hoped the decision to send them will be made.
