Over 1 million French demonstrate against controversial pension reform

Demonstrators gathered in France's capital amid nationwide protests against President Emmanuel Macron's contested pension reform, which would raise the retirement age from 62 to 64. More than one million French people took to the streets across the country. Nationwide strikes severely disrupted transport, schools and other public services across France. Macron has insisted that he will press ahead with the proposed pension reforms.
