The Broken Bridge gets its name from the fact that on snowy winter days, the bridge looks like it's broken. It is one of the 10 most famous scenic spots on West Lake in Hangzhou. Built as early as the Tang Dynasty ((618-907), it is located at the east end of the Bai Causeway of West Lake in Hangzhou. The existing Broken Bridge was reconstructed in 1941 and renovated in the 1950s. Being the watershed between the North Lake and the Outer West Lake, it has the greatest fame among the many bridges in the West Lake.
