Death toll in Peruvian protests rises to 65 amid fresh clashes
00:47

One person was killed as hundreds of anti-government protesters clashed yet again with Peruvian police in downtown Lima amid ongoing nationwide unrest. Police stopped advancing protesters from reaching the seat of the national Congress at the Legislative Palace. The presidential office expressed regret that Congress had not agreed on the timing of general elections that thousands have demanded during almost two months of protests that have left 57 dead. A plenary session of Congress failed to approve a bill on Friday that would have moved the elections forward to the end of 2023.
