2 people confirmed dead after avalanche in Japan's Nagano

Two men who were caught in an avalanche in Otari Village, central Japan's Nagano Prefecture, were confirmed dead hours after being found in a state of cardiopulmonary arrest, Japanese public broadcaster NHK reported on Monday, citing the police.

The accident took place at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday in the backcountry area outside the course of Tsugaike Kogen Ski Resort. 

A total of 13 people in three groups, all foreign nationals, were skiing at the time of the avalanche. Eleven have descended from the mountain.
