At the press conference introducing COVID-19 prevention and control policies and situations during the 2023 Spring Festival holiday, officials said the overall rate of COVID-19 infections has been low and the cases were in steady decline in various places across China.
The number of people seeking treatment at fever clinics, general outpatient and emergency departments in township and community health centers was low during the festival. The number of people visiting fever clinics was the lowest on January 22 though it picked up later, and there was still a 40-percent decrease from the figure before the holiday and a 94-percent decrease compared with the peak daily figure on December 23, 2022.
As the number of COVID-19 infections continues to decline, China's consumer market saw substantial growth, with tourism, retailing, catering and other entertainment sections showing a strong recovery.
