COVID-19 in transition
05:08

On January 30, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the COVID-19 pandemic still constitutes a public health emergency of international concern and is at a "transition point." This episode of Straight Talk invites medical doctor Charles Ng to discuss the meaning of "transition point," China's pandemic response and what more needs to be done. He believes the WHO's decision is based on the scientific assessment of different countries' responses to the pandemic. Countries with poor healthcare infrastructure and a low vaccine rate are still suffering from the pandemic's impact. Compared to many rich countries, China's "leave no one behind" strategy and measures like effective vaccination campaigns have protected its people. Ng believes that travel restrictions against China are illogical and look more and more like decisions made based on discrimination and political stunts.
