Former Japanese Defense Minister Nobuo Kishi has resigned from his position as special adviser to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for national security policy and nuclear disarmament issues, Kyodo News reported on Friday.
He will be replaced by Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Seiji Kihara.
Kishi has reportedly dealt with health problems in recent years.
According to Kyodo, Kishi also tendered his resignation to Japan's lower house chief Hiroyuki Hosoda to vacate his seat in the House of Representatives.
