Saturday marks the "Start of Spring", or Lichun, on Chinese lunar calendar. As the first solar term of the year, it marks the starting point on the wheel of four seasons, when the world is revived after a cold winter. This day is usually marked with certain specific customs, like "bite the spring" and "beat the spring cattle".
