At least 15 people were killed in Türkiye after an earthquake shook the country on Monday, officials said.

Five deaths were reported in Osmaniye Province and 10 in Sanliurfa Province, which sits near Türkiye's border with Syria.

Six people were killed in the collapse of residential buildings in the countryside of Syria's Aleppo and Idlib due to the earthquake, Al Jazeera reported, citing medical sources, though there has been no official confirmation.

The Turkish interior minister said the priority is to reach people under rubble.

Three aftershocks of over magnitude-5.0 were recorded within half an hour of the earthquake, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre.

The tremors were also felt in other southeastern provinces, including Diyarbakir and Gaziantep, and neighboring countries, including Lebanon and Syria.

The China Earthquake Networks Center and the U.S. Geological Survey recorded the magnitude at 7.8, while the local Disaster and Emergency Management Authority reported it was a magnitude-7.4 earthquake.

The epicenter was recorded at a depth of 10 kilometers, the authorities said.
