NW China sees record-breaking inflow of birds over winter
CGTN

In a recent survey in northwest China's Gansu Province, over 60,000 overwintering birds from 54 species were recorded, setting a new record for both species and quantity of waterfowl.

Gansu is located on the two international bird migration routes, according to the wildlife diversity monitoring and protection team of Lanzhou University's College of Ecology, which organized the survey.

The survey also identified three species of key nationally protected birds, namely crested ibis, black stork and egret, and confirmed the first wintering record of crested ibis in Gansu.

This year, the province will also conduct a waterfowl habitat survey in its wetlands that cover the Yellow River basin.
