The death toll from powerful earthquakes that hit southern Türkiye on Monday has risen to 14,014, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told reporters on Thursday during a visit to the quake-hit province of Gaziantep.
Erdogan said over 6,400 buildings had been destroyed, and Türkiye aimed to build new three- and four-story buildings in the region within one year.
The latest number of deaths in Syria stood at 3,162, according to Syrian state media and local rescuers. While the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 3,556 people have died in Syria.
Thus, the devastating earthquakes have left over 17,100 people dead, while rescue teams are racing against time to find more survivors.
