At least 9,057 people were killed and 52,979 others injured after two strong earthquakes jolted southern Türkiye on Monday, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday as he visited the affected regions.
Erdogan said all resources were mobilized in disaster relief. "We have mobilized all our resources. The state is working with municipalities, especially AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency), with all its means," he said during visit to the hard-hit Kahramanmaras province.
Some 13 million people were affected in Türkiye and over 6,000 buildings were collapsed due to the deadly quakes as rescue operation continues.
More than 98,150 searches and rescue personnel are currently conducting operations in the field and 5,309 personnel coming from other countries for help were dispatched to the disaster area, according to Anadolu Agency citing the AFAD.
