Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy addressed the European Parliament and the special meeting of the European Council in Brussels on Thursday, calling on EU leaders to supply weapons to Ukraine quicker.
Speaking at a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after the EU summit, Zelenskyy said several EU leaders told him they were ready to provide Kyiv with aircraft.
Michel told reporters that the European Union must continue to provide "maximum" support to Ukraine, whose President Zelenskyy has talked about the military needs for his country during the summit, adding that the EU is preparing the 10th package of sanctions against Russia.
Von der Leyen explained that new European sanctions will include new export bans worth more than 10 billion euros ($10.7 billion) and "will further starve Russia's military machine and shake the foundations of its economy."
