U.S. launches unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile

An operational test launch of an unarmed Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) was conducted from Vandenberg Space Force Base on Thursday at 11:01 p.m. Pacific Time, the space force base said in a statement on Friday.
The purpose of this launch program is to "validate and verify the safety, security, effectiveness, and readiness of the weapon system."
