Professor John J. Mearsheimer from the University of Chicago points out that although there are still many trade exchanges between China and the United States, there's no question we're in a new cold war. He says that two countries that are bitter security rivals can have a great deal of economic intercourse, but the U.S. is playing hardball with China when it comes to cutting-edge technology. "What you see today and what you're definitely going to see moving forward is the United States making efforts to influence trade that involves high technology, but not influencing trade that involves other kinds of goods."
