 A short-term 'freedom'

With the earthquake casualties mounting in Turkey and Syria, the U.S. grudgingly bowed to international pressure and decided to temporarily ease its sanctions on Syria for 180 days. But tragically, the severe shortage of relief and rescue supplies due to decades-long unilateral U.S. sanctions caused the critical first 72 hours to be squandered in the quake-stricken country, from which U.S. troops were already stealing oil and wheat. The motivation for the short-term sanctions easing was purely political, not humanitarian.
