Xi Jinping cares about Chinese cultural treasures | Episode 3: Return of National Treasures
08:16

Cultural relics and heritage carry the genes and bloodline of the Chinese nation. They are non-renewable and irreplaceable resources of the excellent Chinese civilization.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, with Xi Jinping as the core, attaches great importance to the return of lost cultural relics.

During Xi Jinping's state visit to Italy in March 2019, 796 lost Chinese cultural relics were returned to China. It was the first repatriation received in the presence of China's top leader. Under the impetus of President Xi, China and Italy have signed several agreements on preventing theft and excavation of cultural relics and promoting their return.

Visiting Greece the same year, President Xi once again voiced China's demands for the return of lost cultural relics. "I not only support you, but also think we should act together. China also has a lot of cultural relics lost overseas. We are making unremitting efforts to fight for the return of these relics to their homeland."

Since the 18th CPC National Congress in 2012, China has stepped up its efforts for the return of lost cultural relics. It has signed bilateral agreements and established cooperation mechanisms with 24 countries. More than 1,800 cultural relics have returned home.
