In the spring of 1982, Xi Jinping, who was not yet 29 years old at the time, was appointed deputy secretary and secretary of Zhengding County Party Committee in Hebei Province.
He was interested in Zhengding's history and attracted by the local ancient architectural complexes and deep cultural heritage upon arrival. He read the county records and historical materials, walked the streets and lanes and surveyed the monuments.
During his tenure in Zhengding, he worked hard to promote the rescue and protection of cultural relics. Thanks to his efforts, Zhengding's cultural relics have regained their splendor.
Xi Jinping said, "Cultural relics carry splendid civilization, inherit history and culture, and sustain the national spirit, which is a valuable heritage left to us by the ancestors."
