China's State Grid has started the construction of new ultra-high voltage (UHV) power lines in the Sichuan-Tibet Plateau and a pumped-storage hydropower plant in Hubei Province. The 800-kilovolt UHV direct current power transmission project spans 1,901 kilometers, running through southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality and eventually landing in central China's Hubei Province. The project, which will be the highest of its kind in the world, is expected to be completed and put into operation in 2025. Still, the Tongshan pumped-storage hydropower station will be equipped with four sets of power generators, each with a capacity of 350,000 kilowatts.
