Four cotton pygmy geese were spotted foraging in Haiwei National Wetland Park in S China's Hainan Province.
The bird's name might suggest it's a goose, but it's actually a duck, and the world's smallest duck in terms of body size. The name might have something to do with its goose-like bill. And as to the word "cotton" in its name, some reports say that it's because the bird looks like a cotton ball from afar.
The duck is under second-class state protection in China. In the past, no more than two of the duck were spotted at the same time in Hainan.
