On the scene: Thousand-year-old city in Türkiye destroyed by earthquake
03:39

On February 6, a powerful earthquake struck southern Türkiye, killing more than 40,000 people, including about 20,000 from the border province of Hatay. Hatay province's hardest hit area was its capital city Antakya, where about 80% of the buildings were damaged in the earthquake. Many people say they've lost everything.

Antakya is an ancient city with a history of over 2,000 years, founded in 300 B.C. It was once the third largest city of ancient Rome and an important stop on the ancient Silk Road.
