Death toll from heavy rainfall in Brazil hits 45

The death toll from the devastating rainfall in southeastern Brazil rose to 45, Folha de S.Paulo reported on Tuesday, citing local authorities. 

According to the government, 1,730 people are displaced and 766 remain homeless, CNN Brazil reported, adding the search and rescue efforts continue on Tuesday.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva visited the region on Monday. He said homes should no longer be built in areas at risk of landslides and major floods.
