A hemisphere dome with a diameter of 47 meters and weight of over 300 tonnes was hoisted into place on the No. 3 Hualong One Unit at Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant in south China's Hainan Province on Tuesday. The installation marks the completion of the infrastructure construction of the project's second phase and the beginning of equipment installation.
The Changjiang Nuclear Power Program plans to construct two 1.2-gigawatt nuclear power units during the second phase and put them into operation by 2027. The power units are expected to generate nearly 18 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity every year, which can reduce 13 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions from coal consumption.
