The U.S. Department of Defense officially announced a new security assistance package totaling $2 billion to Ukraine on Friday.

"The package also includes a large amount of ammunition for 155mm artillery systems and High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) that have proved so effective on the battlefield, as well as mine clearing equipment and secure communications support equipment," the White House later explained in a statement.

The White House added that the Biden administration also plans to provide up to $250 million in additional emergency energy assistance to Ukraine.

White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan earlier revealed this new assistance package at a CNN town hall event on Thursday, adding that "we're going to continue to look at what is necessary, and make sure that we provide what is necessary that Ukraine has what it needs to succeed on the battlefield."
