The European Union has adopted its 10th sanctions package on Russia since the start of the crisis in Ukraine, this one targeting 121 individuals and entities that include Russian government and military officials as well as banks and media outlets.

"As part of our listings, we are targeting those responsible for the deportation and forced adoption of at least 6,000 Ukrainian children," High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell declared Saturday.

And for the first time, the EU listed seven Iranian entities, accusing them of using EU components and providing Russia with military "Shahed" drones to attack civilian infrastructure in Ukraine.

The proposed package, announced in mid-February, indicated export bans of critical technology and industrial goods worth 11 billion euros ($11.6 billion) to Russia. It was agreed by the EU on Friday after rounds of discussions.

"I welcome the formal adoption of our 10th sanctions package against Russia," said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday. "We now have the most far-reaching sanctions ever - depleting Russia's war arsenal and biting deep into its economy. We are also turning up the pressure on those trying to circumvent our sanctions."

Apart from additional listings, new export bans and restrictions have also been introduced by the EU on sensitive dual-use and advanced technologies that contribute to Russia's military capabilities and technological enhancement.

The EU also imposed import bans on Russian high-revenue goods like bitumen and related materials like asphalt, and synthetic rubber and carbon blacks.

Russia has not responded to the latest EU sanctions yet.
