Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, quoted these words at the international symposium to commemorate the 2,565th anniversary of the birth of Confucius. "We can only open up the future when we keep history in mind," Xi said. "We can only innovate when we are good at inheriting. Fine traditional culture is a foundational element of a country or nation's inheritance and development. Losing it will cut off the country or nation's spiritual lifeline."
