Israeli and Palestinian officials on February 26 pledged to implement measures to de-escalate surging violence after talks in Jordan. In a joint statement at the end of the meeting, the officials said that they would work closely to prevent "further violence" and that they "reaffirmed the necessity of committing to de-escalation on the ground." Despite the agreement, at least one Israel governmental official, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, says he will refuse to honor some commitments by the sides.
