The last unit of China's mega power station, Baihetan hydropower station, passed acceptance on Monday. At this point, all 16 units of the station have passed acceptance.

Located on the Jinsha River, the upper section of the Yangtze River in southwest China, Baihetan has a total installed capacity of 16 gigawatts. It's the world's second-largest hydropower station in terms of total installed capacity, second only to the Three Gorges Dam project in the central Chinese province of Hubei.

Having entered full operation on December 20, 2022, the station can generate 62,400 gigawatt-hours of electricity a year, enough to meet the electricity consumption needs of approximately 75 million people.

As of February 26, Baihetan generated 9,000 gigawatt-hours of electricity within 2023, and 64,500 gigawatt-hours in total.
