The designs of Yunjin brocade are programmed onto jacquard cards, which are basically a series of knots specifying which threads should be lifted, and when. The process has been likened to computer programming. After the loom is dressed, the jacquard cards are plugged in on the upper part, conveying the vital information – rather like a computer memory stick.
