Roel Degamo, the governor of Negros Oriental province in the Philippines, and five other people were shot dead by unknown gunmen on Saturday, officials said.
President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos Jr. said in a statement an investigation into the shooting "is developing rapidly," adding that his government "will not rest" until the perpetrators are caught.
