The Tianmu Mulan (Magnolia amoena), a stunning Magnolia Genus plant with towering forms and little baby pink flowers, is in full bloom in Hangzhou Botanical Garden in east China's Zhejiang Province. The species, which is unique to China, was discovered on Tianmu Mountain in the province in 1934.

However, due to habitat destruction, slow natural growth, low seed germination rate and low total genetic diversity, the population of this species is quite small. Listed as "vulnerable" by the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, it is scattered in some parts of southeast China. Since 1951, the garden introduced its cultivation of it, and now there are more than 20 adult plants (fully mature) in the garden.
