Tang Ying-yen: Expanding domestic demand beneficial for long-term economic gain

China's 2023 Two Sessions kicked off over the weekend. In Premier Li Keqiang's government work report, it is pointed out that China will expand domestic demand this year, and prioritize the recovery and expansion of consumption. Tang Ying-yen, member of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC and the former Hong Kong chief secretary, tells CGTN host Tian Wei that every economy will have to rely on the parallel track of both international trade and domestic demand, and that boosting domestic consumption will promote healthier economic development. He also explains Hong Kong's role in connecting the Mainland with the rest of the world.
