The 2023 Two Sessions has opened in Beijing. The biggest annual event on China's political calendar has attracted much attention from the international community, with many observers saying the annual event offers significant clues about the journey China is embarking on.

This year's sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC), the national legislature, and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), the top political advisory body, are particularly important because they manifest the spirit adopted at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), according to Robert Lawrence Kuhn, a China expert.

China's new development path was established several months ago when the Party congress was held, and now is the time to see the implementation, Kuhn told China Media Group.

Kuhn said he will watch what the Two Sessions achieve this time that's different than normal. "One thing I expect is a very high emphasis on science and technology and indigenous innovation."

Sebastien Perimon, an expert on international affairs from the Schiller Institute, a German-based think tank, said the Two Sessions are important not only for China but also the world.

China is a major player or even the most important player in the world economy, Perimon said.

Francisco Taiana from Argentina's Ministry of Culture said sustainable and sound economic growth in China is of great significance to global recovery, and he looks forward to seeing the plenary meetings' fruits of labor.

As the second-largest economy in the world, China is "a major engine" of global economic growth, said Anil Sooklal from South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation.

Sooklal said he believes how China will push forward its economy is the major focus of the Two Sessions.

"Having positive and strong growth in China is also good for the global economy. It's good for Africa," Sooklal told CMG.

Brazil's Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Luciana Santos said China's achievements are deeply admired, and "we are willing to seize all opportunities to work with it."

China is projecting the idea of win-win cooperation, which deserves to be respected by people across the world, Santos added.
