The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 112-103 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, on Tuesday, securing their second straight win and rising to ninth in the Western Conference.

The purple and gold held the jersey-retiring ceremony for Pau Gasol during the halftime break in Tuesday's game. Having been traded by the Grizzlies in the middle of the 2007-08 season, Gasol joined hands with Kobe Bryant to take the team to the NBA Finals three times in a row since then and helped the Lakers win back-to-back championships in 2009 and 2010.

Gasol's No. 16 jersey was placed next to Bryant's Nos. 8 and 24. "It really exceeds any dream or expectation that I've had because it means so much. And obviously with Kobe up there, it just adds something meaningful and powerful, and sad and happy, and painful and joyful," Gasol said.

The Lakers and the Grizzlies are very much alike. Both miss their best offensive player – no LeBron James for the Lakers, no Ja Morant for the Grizzlies – and neither has good spacing. The two teams shared the same keys to victory in Tuesday's game: forcing more turnovers, speeding up and producing easy buckets in transition.

In the end, the Grizzlies led in steals (6-4), made the Lakers commit more turnovers (13-7), but failed to turn these advantages into lead on the scoreboard. By contrast, the Lakers led in fast break points 20-13 and total rebounds (57-45).

Anthony Davis made the biggest contribution to the purple and gold's win after dropping a double-double of 30 points and 22 rebounds on Tuesday night. When he had the ball around the paint, neither Jaren Jackson Jr. nor Xavier Tillman could stop him from scoring. With his size and quickness, Davis also covered a huge area on the defensive end.

The other two key contributors to the Lakers' victory were Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, who combined to score 34 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists off the bench. When most of the players on the court were poor at spacing the floor, Hachimura's ability to drain shots off the dribble in the middle range were very valuable to his team. Reaves' screen plays with Davis were the team's most efficient offensive solution. Over half of his seven assists went to Davis. Reaves went 4-for-6 under the hoop himself.

The Grizzlies' best chance to win Tuesday's game was during Davis' absence in the second quarter. He was slapped hard by David Roddy in the nose and it took him over four minutes to fix that injury. The Grizzlies outscored the Lakers 18-9 during that period of time to lead 49-43, but failed to go any further.

Without Morant, Desmond Bane was supposed to play the Grizzlies' offensive spine, but he only scored his first point at the end of the third quarter as he went 3-for-14 from the field on Tuesday night. Dillon Brooks shot even worse than Bane after missing 12 of his 17 field goals (FGs).

Jackson Jr. had an excellent-performing second quarter during which he made all five of his shots to contribute 14 points for the Grizzlies. However, he was able to work like this only when Davis was not on the court. By contrast, when Jackson Jr. had to challenge Davis' defense from front, he immediately lost his magic.

Charlotte Hornets 112-105 New York Knicks

The Hornets shut down the Knicks' nine-game winning streak at Madison Square Garden in New York City on Tuesday. They didn't panic after the opponents' 45-29 run in the second quarter, and then limited the Knicks' score to 39 points in the second half. Kelly Oubre Jr., Terry Rozier III and Gordon Hayward combined to drop 75 points, 19 rebounds and 17 assists for the Hornets to win on the road.

The Knicks shot 40 triples in Tuesday's game, but only made 11 of them, not to mention that six of the shots they made were in the second period. The team committed only eight turnovers, not because they had good ball movements, but because they didn't pass much. The loss and their struggling offensive performance in the second half showed the Knicks how much they need Jalen Brunson back.

Philadelphia 76ers 117-94 Minnesota Timberwolves

The 76ers rested James Harden on Tuesday night, which means Joel Embiid had to face three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert without his best ball-feeder at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

It turned out that Embiid could dominate Gobert by himself. Having played less than 30 minutes in the game, Embiid shot 13-for-22 in FGs to score 39 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks. He had 22 points in the third quarter alone and didn't even come back in the following period because the competition was a long-gone conclusion.

Golden State Warriors 128-137 Oklahoma City Thunder

The Thunder secured their third consecutive win after scoring 137 points at an FG rate of 53.2 percent at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, on Tuesday. Josh Giddey had a triple-double of 17 points, 11 rebounds and career-high 17 assists. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander didn't go to the free throw line as much as he used to this season, but still got 33 points for the team.

The Warriors suffered their second straight loss despite the 40 points and 10 triples by Stephen Curry. Fairly speaking, their offense is okay, but their defense is as thin as a piece of paper, especially when Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole were all on the court. The team has won only seven of their 32 games on the road so far this season. Nine of the their rest 16 competitions will be on the road.

Washington Wizards 119-117 Detroit Pistons

Milwaukee Bucks 134-123 Orlando Magic

Brooklyn Nets 118-96 Houston Rockets
