China, Saudi Arabia and Iran issued a joint statement on Friday in Beijing, announcing the restoration of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran.
The statement said that as a response to Chinese President Xi Jinping's initiative to support the development of good-neighborly and friendly relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, Musaed bin Muhammad Al-Aiban, Minister of State and National Security Adviser in Saudi Arabia held talks with Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council from March 6 to 10 in Beijing.
The statement said that Saudi Arabia and Iran had reached an agreement, including restoring diplomatic relations and reopening embassies and missions within two months. The three countries also agreed that they will make every effort to strengthen international and regional peace and security.
Saudi Arabia and Iran said they appreciate and thank China for hosting and supporting the talks, which achieved successful results.
