Zhengyang Gate, commonly known as Qianmen, was built in 1419 during the Ming Dynasty. It consists of Zhengyang Gate Tower, Archery Tower, and a barbican outside the city gate known as "Wengcheng," together forming an ancient defensive bulwark. It is located at the southernmost end of Tian'anmen Square and ranks as the most well-preserved ancient city gate in Beijing.

Nowadays, the Qianmen area is not just a historical site but a popular tourist spot, serving as the oldest and most popular commercial street in the city. The Qianmen Street spans 845 meters and is 20 meters wide, featuring a series of buildings whose architectural styles resemble those of the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It's an iconic cultural spot that reflects the lifestyle of local Beijingers. The city's cuisine and street food, clothing and jewelry markets, handicrafts, souvenirs and a series of time-honored Chinese brands can be found on this famous street.

Guanghelou is a classic building that merits a stop during any visit to the Qianmen Street, due to its long history of cultivating traditional Chinese opera. Founded during the late Ming Dynasty, it's recognized as one of the most famous theaters in the capital. Originally built inside a private garden, it was later reincarnated as a tea house. Kangxi, the fourth emperor of the Qing Dynasty, visited there to enjoy performances.
