Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday stressed the importance of making solid efforts in advancing the practice of "One Country, Two Systems" and the cause of national reunification.

President Xi made the remarks while addressing the closing meeting of the first session of the 14th National People's Congress, China's top legislature.

He pledged that the country will remain committed to law-based governance in Hong Kong and Macao and will support the two special administrative regions in developing their economies and improving people's livelihood, so that they can better integrate themselves into the overall development of the country.
