Carsten Boyer Thøgersen: The value of a community with a shared future
About 10 years ago, China raised the concept of a community with a shared future for mankind, which applies to its domestic and foreign policies. What does this concept mean? Is China trying to export its model of society? And how can China manage the various challenges while in the process of building it? Former Danish diplomat to China Carsten Boyer Thøgersen believes that it is unhelpful to look at the differences between Chinese values and philosophy and those of European countries in a confrontational way. He suggests that the Chinese government and people need to be patient and never give up their efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind, as examples and history will convince people that the concept is valuable.
