A spring snowstorm swept across wide swathes of China's northernmost province of Heilongjiang over the past two days, with the local meteorological authorities in Hulin, a county-level city sharing the border with Russia, issuing a yellow alert for heavy snow.

Local sanitation authorities have mobilized workers and volunteers to clear the snow to minimize disruption to traffic, industry and people's everyday lives.

Traffic police officers have been deployed at all crossroads, directing vehicles in slippery road conditions.

In the rural areas of Hulin, 170 vegetable greenhouses in a village are under the heavy pressure of snow accumulated on them. More personnel have been dispatched to help the affected people in saving their properties.

China has a four-tier, color-coded weather warning system, with red representing the most severe weather, followed by orange, yellow and blue.
