Erling Haaland contributed five goals to Manchester City's 7-0 victory over RB Leipzig in the Champions League round of 16 second leg on Tuesday. Ilkay Gundogen and Kevin De Bruyne were also on target for City, as they eased into the quarterfinals 8-1 on aggregate.

Haaland, 22, became the third player to score five goals in a game in the Champions League, and helped City equal their biggest European win. He also became the youngest ever player to reach 30 Champions League goals in the fewest number of games, netting 33 times in 25 matches.

Haaland slotted home a penalty in the 22nd minute after Benjamin Henrichs was adjudged to have handled the ball in the box following a VAR review. He found the net again just 19 seconds after the kickoff. His fifth hat-trick in all competitions this season arrived in first-half stoppage time when Ruben Dias's header bobbled along the line and Haaland rushed in to force it into the net. He then capped his history-making night with two more from close range in the 53rd and 57th minutes.

City have never won the Champions League title. They lost to Chelsea 1-0 in the final in 2021, and were outclassed by eventual champions Real Madrid in last season's semifinals.

In the other game on Tuesday, Inter Milan reached the Champions League last eight after a goalless draw in the second leg against Porto, sealing a 1-0 aggregate win in the last-16 tie.
