A pair of giant pandas, Ruyi and Ding Ding, living in the Moscow Zoo, have helped advance the friendship between China and Russia. The pair came to Russia in 2019 as a gift to mark the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. They were sent to the Moscow Zoo under the Sino-Russia cooperation program for giant panda protection and research and will live in the zoo for 15 years. To take good care of Ruyi and Ding Ding, the Moscow Zoo sent an expert team to China to learn how to raise giant pandas before they arrived in Russia. As giant pandas' favorite bamboo varieties are not widely grown in Russia, the Moscow Zoo has to fly it in from China to feed about 40 kg of bamboo for each panda daily.
