The death toll from the powerful earthquakes that hit southern Türkiye on February 6 has risen to 50,096, the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority said on Monday.

A total of 298 people were arrested as a result of investigations regarding the buildings destroyed in Türkiye's earthquake zone, Turkish media outlet DHA reported on the day.

The damage caused to Türkiye by a devastating earthquake was estimated at around $104 billion (97 billion euros), said Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan during an international donors' conference held by the Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU and the European Commission.

"Regardless of its economic standing, it is impossible for any country to fight a disaster of this scale on its own," Erdogan told the conference in Brussels via video link.
