Quarterback (QB) Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was introduced at a press conference on Monday, and he said he will never be Tom Brady, who led the team to win Super Bowl LV in 2021.

"Listen, I'm never going to be Tom Brady," Mayfield said. "There's a reason he's won so many Super Bowls. He's the greatest of all time. There's no doubt about that. I'm not going to try to be Tom. I'm going to be me. That's what has gotten me to this point. We're going to do it differently, but that's what makes this league so special. Everybody puts their own touch on it."

The Cleveland Browns drafted Mayfield with the first-overall pick in 2018 after he won the Heisman Trophy, which is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. He started 59 of his 60 games on the team and completed 1,185 of his 1,924 passes for 14,125 yards and 92 touchdowns.

The Browns appeared in the playoffs in the 2020 season during those four campaigns. They beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the American Football Conference Wild Card Game but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

The Browns traded Mayfield to the Carolina Panthers in July 2022 after they landed Deshaun Watson. He played seven games for the Panthers and threw 119-for-206 to generate 1,313 yards and six touchdowns. He suffered a high-ankle sprain before the team granted the release he requested in December 2022.

The Los Angeles Rams soon claimed Mayfield off waivers. He made five appearances for the team, completing 82 of his 129 passes for 850 yards and four touchdowns. He became a free agent after the 2022 season and signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Buccaneers in March.

"That's definitely been a struggle," Mayfield said. "There were times where, kind of searching in the mirror thinking, 'All right. What's next? What do I need to do?' But you've got to relate it back to your success. If I can review all the situations and experiences I've had and trust in those and learn from them and not just harp on the negative stuff but take away just a little thing each time, that's how you continue to grow. And I still believe that all the experiences I've gone through happened for a reason, and it's going to help me in the long run."

The Buccaneers became a Super Bowl racer after Brady joined the team in 2020. The seven-time Super Bowl winner announced his retirement for the second time after the 2022 season. The team will have both Mayfield and Kyle Trask for the starting QB duty.

"The thing I've realized the most in the last year, it is how can I help with what I'm best at?" Mayfield told reporters. "And that's, that's being a good leader, being infectious, energetic, even when I'm not playing, helping guys out, you know, I've played a lot of ball, so I've seen a decent amount, so I can help people out from being behind the scenes like I did last year quite a bit, and just enjoying the process. This is a dream I'm living. Why not enjoy it? But right now, I want to compete, and I want to win."
