Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven on Monday announced a 40-year stadium ban on a fan who had attacked Sevilla goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic during the two sides' UEFA Europa League clash at the Philips Stadion last month.

In the final minutes of the second leg of the Europa League knockout round play-off tie in February, the 20-year-old home fan entered the stadium and punched Dmitrovic in the face before he was taken down by the Serbian custodian. The game was halted before security staff took the attacker away.

The attacker was sentenced to three months behind the bars, including a one-month suspension by the East Brabant District Court. He had already been placed under a ban from the stadium until 2026 by the Royal Dutch Football Association, but used a ticket bought by a friend to go to the game against Sevilla.

"In addition to the 40-year stadium ban, PSV will initiate proceedings to recover any damages the club incurs from him," Einhoven said in a statement. "He has also received a two-year area ban around the Philips Stadium from the Public Prosecutor's Office. At the time, due to a stadium ban for previous misconduct, he should not have been present at all."

"He came and pushed me from behind. I have never seen anything like it," Dmitrovic told reporters after the game. "He was probably angry about the result and a bit crazy already. He tried to hit me, and I managed to grab him and wait for security to arrive. It's never nice to see this in football, it shouldn't happen, and from now on, I hope these things are well punished."

"He wanted to hurt me; it's a shame that something like this happens in football field. UEFA must intervene. I'll keep my mouth shut so I don't say what I would really like to do in that moment," he added.

Spanish club Sevilla lost that game 2-0, but still managed to advance to the Europa League Round of 16 thanks to their 3-0 win in the first leg. They knocked out Fenerbahce later to reach the quarterfinals, in which they will face Manchester United.
