In 2021 China declared that it had eradicated extreme poverty according to the national poverty threshold, lifting some 770 million people out of poverty since 1978. But that's not the end of the story. Alessandro Teixeira, former special economic adviser to the president of Brazil, thinks when a country takes people out of poverty, the big challenge it's to guarantee they will not go back.
