The Nord Stream gas pipeline explosion has had a significant impact on the world, and the international community has called for finding out the truth, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a regular press conference on Wednesday.

Recently, the U.S. and other Western members of the UN Security Council broke their silence on Russia's draft UN Security Council resolution on the Nord Stream pipeline by objecting to the formation of an international independent commission of inquiry.

The core of the draft resolution proposed by Russia is to promote an international investigation by the United Nations, and China supports the Russian draft resolution, the spokesperson said.

The United Nations, as the most authoritative and representative international body, will conduct an international investigation to help create synergy with existing national investigations and find the truth more quickly, Wang said.

Wang also said that China supports the Security Council's discussions on the relevant issues and has constructively participated in the consultations on the draft resolution, while some developing members of the Council have also put forward reasonable opinions and proposals.

Stating that China has taken note of the attitude of some Western members of the Security Council, Wang added that China hopes these countries will truly abandon their geopolitical self-interest, effectively fulfill their obligations and responsibilities as members of the Security Council, constructively participate in the draft consultations and make positive efforts for the Council to reach agreement on the relevant resolution as soon as possible.

Russia submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council to investigate the blasts, suggesting that the UN Secretary General create an independent international commission of lawyers to investigate the sabotage on February 17, according to TASS News Agency.
